Join Us
This is our second summer camp. We have extensive experience of running retreats and spectacular holidays but this year we thought we would get back to basics again and where better to get back to nature than Dartmoor National Park in the heart of Devon.

The aim of this camp is to bring people together to share tai chi and chi kung in a fantastic place, to deepen our understanding of these arts, to have a lot of fun and create an enjoyable experience for all involved.

The Venue

Gidleigh Village Hall
(Grid reference SX672 883)

We are camping in the adjacent field to the hall with access to all the halls facilities through out the day and night.
The hall itself provides both indoor and outdoor practice space with stunning views of the lush countryside. It has a full kitchen, showers and toilets. There is a small car park available, as well as a campfire site for a relaxing evening under the stars!

The Location

Gidleigh is a remote and picturesque village on the eastern edge of Dartmoor National Park. It is on the Mariners Way an ancient coast to coast track, has a fine 15th century granite church and the remains of a 13th Century castle (private). It is surrounded by superb wooded countryside which gives way to the vast expanse of the high moor at Kes Tor. Just south west of here is the famous Scorhill stone circle, Chagford common and Fernworthy forest. Two miles to the east lies the ancient stannary town of Chagford. This is ideal countryside for a ramble through unspoilt leafy lanes or finding a quiet spot for personal tranquillity.

What you need to bring
Tent, sleeping bag, warm clothes, sensible and sufficient outdoor clothes to cope with both the height of summer and the vagaries of Dartmoor, sensible footwear and comfortable shoes, wash kit, towel, torch, any other personal items or comforts you may require. Remember this site is quite remote. You may also wish to bring musical instruments or your best party tricks!

Directions
As previously mentioned Gidleigh is quite remote and hard to reach by public transport. The nearest rail links are Exeter or Newton Abbot, the nearest airport is Exeter. The Town of Chagford is two miles from Gidleigh and may be reached by bus from Exeter and Newton Abbot, local taxis may be another option.
We would recommend car sharing. If you wish to share a lift from a public transport site please contact us and we will see what we can arrange
Small camper vans are welcome but space for larger vehicles is limited.

If driving from the east or west:
Leave the A30 at Merrymeet junction (formerly roundabout) and take the A382 through Whiddon Down village. At the far end of the village, you come to a mini roundabout, turn left, following the A382 towards Moretonhampstead, Throwleigh and Chagford. About a quarter of a mile along, there is a right turn signed for Throwleigh and Gidleigh IGNORE THIS SIGN!! Carry straight on the A382 for about another two miles until you see a right turn signposted Murchington, Gidleigh and Art Gallery (brown sign). Follow this road for 1.5 miles then turn right at the art gallery (signed Murchington, Gidleigh and Throwleigh). After half a mile, you come to a crossroads, go straight over this and take the first left turning, signed Gidleigh and Murchington. This road will eventually lead you straight to the village hall. The first village you come to is Murchington, which you go through with the old Chapel on your right. Follow the road down a very steep hill and through the woods, with a little river on your left. Go over a stone bridge then up a very long hill. As you get to the crest of the hill, the first building you will see is Gidleigh Village Hall. The Hall is on a right hand junction signed Gidleigh and Chapple. Parking is through the five bar gate on the right.

If driving from Newton Abbot or South Devon: take the A382 north through Moretonhampstead, eventually turning left into Chagford on the B3206. Go into the centre of Chagford turning right at the top of the town, take the next right and follow it to Murchington. Turn left in Murchington and go through the village with the old Chapel on your right. Parking is through the five bar gate on the right or on the lane depending on space
